Who Are Friends of Soccer?
Friends of Soccer was founded in 2005 by Vancouver soccer fan, Bill Currie. Many of us are longtime supporters of the Vancouver Whitecaps, who are building one of the most progressive soccer organizations in North America. Their senior team currently plays in USL Division One, the second top tier of men's professional soccer on the continent, and they have future ambitions to play in the top tier. The Whitecaps Women's team plays in the North American W-League, and are consistently ranked as one of the top women's clubs in the world. The club is also one of the first North American soccer organizations to build a complete pyramid system similar to European clubs, with a full range of reserve teams, Super-Y clubs, youth academies and sport camps. On October 13, 2005, the Whitecaps unveiled a plan to build a spectacular Soccer Specific Stadium along Vancouver's downtown waterfront. The stadium is an ambitious, forward-thinking proposal that makes brilliant use of the city's major downtown transit hub, and provides positive economic spinoffs for businesses and residents of Downtown, Gastown, Coal Harbour, and the Downtown Eastside. The benefits for the community and the game of soccer are tremendous. For detailed information and artist renderings of the stadium, please visit the stadium's official site at: For the latest news and developments on the stadium, PLEASE VISIT OUR WEBLOG HERE. The public hearing process on the development of the stadium is slated to take place soon, and we need your help to show that soccer fans in Vancouver, British Columbia, across Canada and around the World want to see this stadium become a reality. There are many ways
you can help:
Together, with your help, we can make the Whitecaps Waterfront Stadium a reality. |
